In a recent ranking by Euroamerica Sport Marketing and Gerardo Molina & Asociados, Spain and Brasil have been elected as the favorite football teams of the World Cup 2010 while at the same time being the most expensive teams in the South African competition. Spain is worth 565 Million Euros and Brasil 515 Million Euros, followed by France which is ranked third with an estimated value of 450 Million Euros.
The ranking is calculated with the value of 25 players from each team that have played the most time during the qualifying phase. Thanks to few players such as Henry, Benzema or Ribery, the ranking is favorable to France but unfortunately, the lack of results during recent games is not justifying the value of the team. Big names like England, Argentina, Germany or Italy fall behind despite the fact that they didn’t have such a hard time during the qualifying matches. The tide can turn for France and we will know soon enough when the world cup kick-starts on June 11th. France which is in the Group A, will play its first game on this very same day against Uruguay in Cape Town.
Spain is right now one of the top teams in Europe, their recent friendly triumph against France showed to all opponents that they are planning to repeat the success of the EURO 2008. Spain is currently the number one football team in the world according to FIFA’s rankings, and all bets are in favour of them playing in the final game of the tournament. But there is a long way to get there, not so much in the group stage where most likely they will finish at the top, later though on the second round they will have to face either Brazil or Portugal before going any further. And this is where the big games will be played since both Brazil and Portugal would have to fight for the first place of Group G to avoid a match up against Spain. The football team that will leave victorious from the Round of 16 game will most likely go all the way to the final.
